Una Archer

Attachment theory, systemic family practice, trauma therapy and neuropsychology

Una is passionate about supporting secure attachment in parent-child relationships. She developed this interest during her MSc in educational psychology, and since then, she trained in and worked with attachment theory, systemic practice with families and trauma therapy. She has been in private practice since 2014, working with individuals, couples, children and families.

Secure attachment is not just a concept but a crucial foundation for children to confidently explore the world, build emotional resilience, and form healthy relationships. Through her extensive experience, Una has witnessed the pivotal role of relationship security in helping families navigate a myriad of parenting challenges, from behavioural and emotional difficulties and living with neurodiversity to illness, separation, and bereavement.

She works with parents over a number of months using the Circle of Security Parenting framework to explore their relationship with their children as a starting point to discover what comes up for them emotionally and how that can get in the way of them forming secure attachments. Through this awareness and insight, parents can better regulate and manage their own emotions and those of their children, ultimately leading to more connected relationships.

If needed, she can support this exploration with Brainspotting therapy. Brainspotting therapy offers a gentle, respectful and effective way to find and heal the traumas we carry in our nervous systems. Brainspotting can help nurture secure attachment by addressing attachment wounds and unresolved traumas stored within the brain and body. These experiences can influence our relationships with our children in ways we don’t realise at the time. Once healed, it can free up space to connect with our children in the present moment. We can see more of who our children are and share more of ourselves with them.

Outside of work, Una loves spending time with her blended family and their cat Trudy. She like sitting on her desk when she’s working. Una likes to start the day with meditation, journaling and a cold plunge! Her favourite food is lasagne, even though she is trying to stay clear of dairy.
